Rear Wheel and Rack

rear wheel

The rear wheel assembly is interesting. GS use the seat as an integral part of the rear frame, and I can't do that because my seat slides. So I looked around and thought about triangulating it, and initially decided that the Thunderbolt approach should work quite well. I planned on using a tube instead of a flat gusset because I don't have a supply of chunky flat CroMo and I don't want to carry too much mild steel round. But the more I thought about placing tube the more it seemed sensible to lift it away from the joint.

Having had the GS towing point for a while, I like the idea of chainstays extending right back. It gives a really solid mount for the carrier, makes the back wheel pretty solid, and means I should be able to tow a decent trailer if I want to.
